King’s College London are digitising their histology and histopathology teaching slide collections in partnership with the BEST Network. Their collection includes the valuable contributions to pathology made by Dr Marie Driver. Click to see her virtual slide images on Slice, or review the PDF below to locate specific virtual slides.

Dr Driver (née Thomas) was amongst the first clinical intake of medical students to include women at London’s Westminster Hospital (accepted in 1946) and thus she can be considered a pioneer in medicine. After completing her training and early appointments, in the mid 1960s, Marie gained a post at King’s College London where she specialised in pathology. Dr Driver worked as a consultant in the department of morbid anatomy, specialising in neonatal pathology. She combined clinical work with postgraduate teaching and research and upon her retirement in 1993, she continued to support her former students in their research. She died peacefully in King’s College Hospital, London on 6 February 2017.

Dr Driver’s slide collection continues to be used in teaching at King’s College London and thanks to its digitisation, the virtual slides are now available to students globally. Review the PDF below for access to individual virtual slides from her collections.
